Remote Sensing Surveys
Other facets of the company's expertise include geophysical remote sensing using
sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers etc. Many surveys have been
conducted using E.G. & G, Imagenex or Marine Sonics dual channel sidescan sonar,
and G866 proton or G881 Cesium magnetometers for archaeological and pipeline location
surveys. CRA-Canada uses both Triton 'Isis' and Coda systems that record the sonar
data and GPS positions, thereby allowing the generation of 'Mosaics' during post-processing.
Magnetometer data is also stored on computer disk and two and three-dimensional contour
charts of magnetic anomalies can be generated automatically. Sub-bottom profiling surveys
to locate buried pipelines or locate bedrock beneath superficial deposits is carried out
using the new Datasonics "Chirp" system with its full color display and data storage on
magneto-optical disk.
